Paper 1

  1. I know now from experience in high school that my first drafts are usually nothing like my final draft. I struggle a lot with trying to connect all my thoughts and ideas together to connect with my thesis.  I think a good example though of me going through the recursive process is writing this paper. After getting feedback from my peers and after thinking it over I decided that my ideas for my paper were exactly making sense and completely redirected my paper in a whole new direction.  Before I was all over the place talking about the pros and cons to emerging adulthood, and also talking about how it affected the individual and society. I then narrowed my perspective a little bit and focused more on the benefit for society.
  2. I know that when I first start writing I sometimes lack sources. What helps me though is meeting with Amy and discussing out my thoughts, When I do this, it helps me develop what I’m trying to say about each support paragraph in regards to my thesis. From here it jogs my memories of what the readings were about and I can now think of quotes that can support my thesis.  I think I had a hard time finding more quotes because I had to completely change my paper to begin with. I think though after my first draft I reread our texts that were assigned for this paper more closely to make sure that they would support my claim
  3. I definitely believe that how i read an essay has completely changed. At the beginning of class I would just read the essays. But when It came time to answer questions about the essay I wouldn’t remember anything. Now through the class I have learned how to retain the readings by taking notes on the side. I sometimes overview a point being made in the essay. I usually try connecting the writing to something that I can relate too. This has helped me understand the text way more. I used to just only highlight the text if anything but I’ve come to learn that if you highlight something important how are you going to know what’s important about it if you don’t remember what about it is the important part.
  4. This is something that I still struggle with. I’m usually lost when peer editing. To me I feel as if I don’t know enough about writing to know what to comment about on others peoples writing. I think i’ve realized that I get overwhelmed when reading others writing. Sometimes when i read their papers I don’t understand the points they are trying to get across. I’ve gotten a little better. For me a big thing that I focus on when reading is do the points connect to the thesis. If not I suggest how they could tweak there writing to make it fit.
  5. I have used MLA citation many times. I think it all comes back to me proof reading my writing. I usually put the period before the quotation which is something that I’m working on fixing. I definitely need to make sure that my quotes are properly citation so I do not plagiarize.  What’s new for me is citing videos/podcasts. But now I know that I cite the time that the quote is being said is at.
  6. I know thatI have a lot of grammatical errors in my writing. I think it is important to continue learning about grammar because with out it our writing would be intelligent. I think it all comes down to taking the time to proof read. Sometimes I just want to finish my writing and be done it. I can be lazy and not take the time to go back and make sure that my sentences make sense. I know what helps me find the errors though is reading my writing out loud.

Paper 2:

After doing my peer review today I’ve gotten a lot of good feedback that I am definitely going to use. Some feedback that I got today was extending my writing a little bit further to wrap up what I was talking about in my paper. Before I had just ended it after talking about the counter view I realized like my peers did that this left my writing incomplete and felt as if there was more of my paper to come.

Another revision my peers made was about my claim sentences. I had good ones but I wasn’t connecting them to my thesis. So this is definitely something that I can work on with Amy on Friday during my SASC workshop time.

This time I feel as though my organization is better but I just need to expand on my thoughts a little more. I got excellent feedback from my peers and they gave me lots of great ideas on what I could add to help make my paper better.

I also need to work on my introduction. It is short and just barely gets the point across. I need to expand more and explain in summary what I’m going to be talking about in each of my paragraphs.

I think expanding my introduction will be a little hard for me. I’ve never been good at doing the introduction. I have a hard time writing the right thing or saying enough with out giving the whole paper away. So for me, that will be a challenge.

Paper 3.

In my biology class, mostly lab we have to do lab reports occasionally. There organization is key to a successful report. There is a certain order that needs that the report needs to run in the maker sure one that the paper makes sense and that it follows the correct report format.  It is very similar to when it comes to writing a paper I mean would you want the conclusion before you had the introduction? No! That wouldn’t make sense at all.
